Finished my self-portrait! Plus a bonus drawing?

 A New Year

As you have probably guessed by reading the title, Yes, I have finished my self-portrait! Lots of people have been asking when I was going to finish, well, not lots - but here it is. If you were to scroll down you would be able to see the finished piece, but for you readers who keep reading this text - finish reading this no nonsense words of meaningless vocabulary. Why did you even read this sentence?

There I am. I finished this in 2020. That was quite awhile ago, last year to be exact. A long time ago, but yet only a few days ago.

The New Year Drawing

Every year on the new year or after, depending on if I remember, I do a little sketch. I started when I began doing this, so - a long time ago, 2017 or 2018 - but I've probably done a drawing every year since I was born, but not a New Year Sketch, I'll call this series a New Year Sketch - I'll post a page of ones I've done and continue each year there is a new year. I'm pretty sure there is a New Year every year.

Buoyancy is key to float!

When the buoyant force equals one ton, it will sink no further. When any boat displaces a weight of water equal to its own weight, it floats. This is often called the “principle of flotation” where a floating object displaces a weight of fluid equal to its own weight.

Self Portrait

 A Self Portrait

I finished another drawing! This one was done using crayons and colored pencils. It's not actually a picture of myself but it is a picture of myself. It's a self portrait through everyday objects using still life.

Here are some close-ups of each square,

We've got a saxophone, I like playing the saxophone, we've got some juggling clubs, I like to juggle, we've got books, I like to read, we've got games, I like playing games, we've got a unicycle, I like to unicycle, we've got some art supplies, I like to draw and paint, and we've got a square with a backyard, I like the nature and outdoors.

I am still working on the self portrait that is actually of myself, so stay tuned for that, I just haven't got around to that since I've been working on other drawings. But that one is probably next.

May the Pencil be with you!

I have never seen Star Wars before, but I know some of the characters. And so I began to draw Yoda, it was only going to be a simple sketch of Yoda, but it looked good after I added some color to him - when he was finished it looked like he was playing baseball with his lightsaber in batting stance and it continued to evolve into a baseball field with a few more Sar Wars characters and I naturally added the Star Trek ship, 'The Enterprise.'

Originally Spok was going to be pitching the ball, but it didn't turn out - the page was too small and he appeared too close to Yoda from the mound so I decided to cancel that idea.

There is the sky, and look at that Star Wars poster behind Chewbacca - lots of emphasis! Ohhhhh.

And the finished piece!  As you can see, there only ended up being one thing from Star Trek - The Enterprise. So it is mostly a Star Wars drawing. This piece was done with colored pencils. And if you are wondering why the baseball isn't perfectly round it is because the ball is traveling at an incredibly fast speed.

Imaginary Landscape

 

The Idea

It started off with a sketch, a preliminary idea to map out before beginning the final drawing. 

In other words - An idea popped into my head, "I'm going to draw a kitchen." So I drew a kitchen. "Oooh, I like it." "No, not quite." I flip the page to start over, still with a kitchen in mind. "No, no, no, it's just not right." Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! I try again! "Nope!" Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase!

Then another idea comes to mind. I flip the page to start over, still with a kitchen in mind, but floating on the lake. "No, no, no, it's just not right." Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! I try again! "Nope!" Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase!

Then another idea comes to mind. I flip the page to start over, still with a kitchen in mind, but with steps going nowhere. "No, no, no, it's just not right." Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! I try again! "Nope!" Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! Erase! ""Oh no, I ripped the paper, too much erasing!"

"I think I'll stick with the kitchen on the lake."

I did some more sketching to get the right view on the bigger paper, which took a while. And below are some pictures I took as I progressed through with my art.

Perspectively in Perspective

 1 Point Perspective

Last week I drew a room using perspectives, one point perspective to be exact. One vanishing point, all angles vanish to a single point - just like when you look down a railroad track.

For this picture I followed a tutorial on one-
point perspective, so it didn't come from my imagination, but from my hand I did sketch it.

Next Project

Currently in the studio I am working on a few different projects. Between my school artwork like this one-point perspective, I have a self portrait started and a Star Wars/Star Trek colored pencil drawing in progress.

Egg-Squisite

A Value Eggs-ercise

This week in art class I am learning how to add value to my art … I kind of already know how to add value, so maybe it's just another value eggs-ercise for me. It is very egg-citing - like every piece of art.

The reason for these Egg-cellent jokes - 

I am drawing an egg - that's egg-sactly why.

The first eggs-ercise was to draw or shade a value scale.

Just a visual of how shading works, going from light to dark - Photography = light drawing

When applied to a pencil drawing we get different values created with different pressure from the pencil.

And then the egg!

And that is the egg in its finished stage, full of value. Hopefully you can tell it is an egg.
