The Assumption, plus...

The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

It's the middle of August and the final drawing of the Podcast Portraits is finally here! This month is another colored pencil drawing, this time of Mary and her Assumption into heaven.

You are probably wondering what the plus means...well...Should I tell you? Yes, yes...you'll see it anyway. It just means that in addition to this post there is also, finally another time lapse video.

I know many people have asked...okay just one, when the next time lapse will be. So here you have it.

Here is the final drawing. It is a nine by twelve colored pencil drawing. And since there is a video to go along with it, I've eliminated the need to scroll for progress photos. It's just a video. Watch it here or go to the YouTube channel to view. Enjoy.

Thank you for viewing today's art work of the Assumption.

The Most Precious Blood

 The Most Precious Blood

Below you will see another Podcast Portrait, this time of The Most Precious Blood of Jesus. The medium is colored pencil on paper.

We started off with a blank piece of paper, a reference photo, and some pencils. From there it kept getting refined with pigment from a colored pencil and the guidance of my hand. As you see from the above photo I started with the skin and figure of Jesus on the cross.

Above here we have a more detailed view of the subject at hand. If you look close you can even see the sketches I had done prior to adding color.

Here is a close up.

Another close up.

And also another close up.

And from here on will be zoomed out showing the details as they progress. This one would have been fun to do a timelapse with.

Over half of the drawing is completed in this photo!

I was unsure of how the background would workout, but as we started I was happy with out it ended up.

And here we have it... the finalized drawing - zoomed out!

And a more direct photo...not so angled.

Hopefully you enjoyed viewing this piece of artwork done for the Feast of The Most Precious Blood of Jesus...and also reading my little excerpts on each image (those are always fun...I hope people actually laugh or smile, but they are not always intended to get a laugh - but usually...)

Until next time - which'll be next month (which'll is a contraction for which will)

Next month's drawing is projected to be a drawing for the Assumption of Mary.

The Annunciation...

 Pencil & Colored Pencil

I finished another drawing. I drew the Annunciation of Mary. Usually it is celebrated on the 25th of the third month, but since Easter and Holy Week were during that time it moved to the week after, which is the 8th of the 4th month.

Below are some progress photos. I chose to draw this one with graphite pencils and to make the subject pop out I used colored pencils.

Thank you for Viewing!

Happy Valentine's Day!

 February 14th 2023

Happy Valentine's Day yet again...it happens every year, doesn't it? Well anyway, last year at this time I wanted to have a Saint Valentine drawing done for the series, so I had started on it a few months or weeks before...can't remember exactly. But funny story, I only got his face drawn.

So this year I decided to finish it, he was actually still taped to my drawing desk (my dresser)  with a bunch of papers and what not piled on top of him. So I cleaned up, dusted the drawing off, and finished in the month of September of two thousand and twenty-three.

This is actually a unique drawing of him, not the typical image you see of Saint Valentine because I have combined a couple of references together.

The first one being that of a computer generated image thought to be what he actually looked like. You can see that below. They took is skull and mapped it out using 3d imagery software to create an image of is actual face.

And the second reference I used was that of a statue of St Valentine to get his traditional looking vestments added in.

And here is the final drawing of saint Valentine.

Thank you for viewing my art! Happy feast of Saint Valentine!

Happy Blogirthday! It has been 4 Years...

 January 10th 2020...

...marks year 4 of this art blog! Can you believe it is still going. Although there has been less and less posts/art over the years (as you can see, art takes time to create) but I've actually been doing more drawings since I started the Podcast Portraits.

I've slowly been adding videos of various drawings depicting the time lapses to my YouTube Channel as well. It's been fun to step back and see the progress from start to finish of each of those.

And to finalize everything for this years celebration I decided to do a throwback of my first drawing for this blog - The Bible and Rosary Drawing. I recreated the scene, photographed it, and drew it.

Many continue to ask (actually not really) how I draw some of these pictures. I continue to answer, "With my hand of course! And a pencil."
